Sales tax rate update checklist
The same steps apply in a register, an ERP, or a worksheet. Read the official change, update the general rate on the effective date, and keep the source.
1. Identify the row
Jurisdiction name and code, previous rate, current rate, change, and effective date. If the row is marked upcoming, the new rate is not in effect yet.
2. Open the official source
Use the source link on the row. The chart wins if a worksheet disagrees. Verified is when US Sales Tax Rates retrieved the file.
3. Find the general rate in your system
Locate the general sales and use rate for that location or ship-to jurisdiction. Do not replace a meals, lodging, or other specialty rate. We do not calculate those.
4. Update on the effective date
Schedule the rate when the system allows it. Otherwise change it on the effective date and check one transaction. Leave upcoming rates out of the live code until that date.
5. Save the proof
Keep the official source with the change. Paid monitoring delivers the same rows as a Rate Change Report, CSV, and Excel for the enrolled states on the watchlist.
US Sales Tax Rates tells you which general sales and use rate changed, when it takes effect, and the official source. The checklist is the handoff. We do not integrate with your point of sale or ERP.
Start monitoring
Monitoring is paid. The sample Rate Change Report is an excerpt from loaded official charts, not a personalized watchlist.
