Update NetSuite after a sales tax rate change

NetSuite tax codes stay under your control. Use the change row to see the new general rate and the official source, then edit the code yourself.

  1. 1. Read the change

From the period page or the Rate Change Report, copy the jurisdiction, the previous rate, the new rate, and the effective date. Open the official source and confirm the printed rate before you edit NetSuite.

  2. 2. Find the tax code

In NetSuite, open the sales tax code or tax schedule that you use for that ship-to jurisdiction. The path is typically Setup, then Accounting, then Tax Codes, or Lists, then Accounting, then Tax Codes, depending on the account. Use the code your orders already post to. Do not create a new nexus from this guide.

  3. 3. Update the rate and the date

Set the rate to the new printed general rate. If the tax code supports an effective date, use the date on the change row. An upcoming rate on our report is not in effect yet. Leave the current code alone until that date.

  4. 4. Check one transaction

Post or preview one invoice for that jurisdiction and confirm the general rate matches the chart. This product does not decide item taxability.

US Sales Tax Rates tells you which general sales and use rate changed, when it takes effect, and the official source. We do not integrate with NetSuite and we do not update tax codes for you.

Start monitoring

Monitoring is paid. The sample Rate Change Report is an excerpt from loaded official charts, not a personalized watchlist.
