US Sales Tax Rates

US Sales Tax Rates

Data status

Each row is read from the loaded file. Current through is the latest official chart that is in force. A chart that is not quarterly, with a printed start and no printed end, is current after that start until a newer chart replaces it. The date of the last official check does not change that; Last checked shows that date and time in Eastern Time (ET). A quarterly chart that prints a start and no end date stays the latest official chart. The note says the state publishes quarterly and that this is the latest file on the official page. When the state's official page prints a rate but no date range, the status says No printed period: Statewide rate when the page gives one statewide rate, Rate list when it gives several. Those rates are what the page showed when it was last checked. A chart whose printed end has passed stays historical. An upcoming chart is a later file that is not in effect yet. A dash means that field was not in the file. States that are not enrolled say so, and no rate is added for them.

How previous, current, and upcoming are defined

Chart availability

48 jurisdictions (including DC and Puerto Rico) have a loaded rate chart; 36 have a chart in force this quarter. 25 of the 48 have a changed or upcoming rate on the Rate Change Report. Data status lists the official chart for each state and whether it is in force this quarter.

We do not invent rates, and each chart shows when its official file was last verified. This is not a live or real-time feed.
