These rows come from the official state charts. Current rate is the figure in effect. When the state printed a later rate, the row shows that upcoming rate, the point change, and when it takes effect. When the chart did not print a prior rate, the row says so.

This excerpt is not the full list. Recent changes lists every in-force change on the latest loaded chart. Upcoming changes are printed rates that are not in effect yet. A watchlist report covers the states you select after you start monitoring. See sample report

The rate may be simple. Proving which one changed usually isn’t.

Every state publishes differently. If you work across states, “what did the state publish, and what moved?” means a pile of tabs, a new PDF name, and a spreadsheet you rebuild each quarter.

  • Find it

Each state posts the chart on a different page, in a different file, with a different name.

  • See what changed

The job is to see which rate moved, and when it takes effect.

  • Keep the proof

The official source and the effective date have to stay with the row, or the spreadsheet is a dead end.

Monitor, detect, verify, match, deliver.

  1. 01

    Monitor

We retrieve the official Department of Revenue chart, or the equivalent agency already on that state’s list, for each enrolled state.

  2. 02

    Detect

We compare that file with the prior official chart on file and flag rows the state marked changed or new.

  3. 03

    Verify

Each row keeps the rate the chart printed, the effective date the state printed, and the official source. A missing prior rate stays blank.

  4. 04

    Match

Your watchlist selects which enrolled states appear on the report. States you did not buy are not added.

  5. 05

    Deliver

You open the Rate Change Report for those states and download the same rows as CSV or Excel.

Confirm a charge or a return with the taxing authority or a qualified professional.

What this replaces

The Department of Revenue hunt

State sites, renamed PDFs, and the spreadsheet you rebuild to answer what changed. US Sales Tax Rates keeps the printed change, the effective date, and the official source in one report.

A tax engine still does the other job

Checkout calculation, taxability, filing, and remittance stay with a tax engine. This product does not calculate a cart, file a return, or replace that system.

Built for people who have to show the change

The same general sales and use chart, read for operators and for the controller who has to keep the source.

  • Restaurants & Franchises

General sales and use rate changes in the states where you sell. Meals, prepared-food, and other specialty taxes are outside this product.

  • Retail

See which local general sales and use rates moved before they reach the receipt, with the official chart attached.

  • Distributors

One change report across the enrolled states you watch, instead of a separate Department of Revenue hunt for each state.

  • Accounting and SALT

Controllers and state-and-local teams get the change, the effective date, and the source for the workpaper. General sales and use monitoring only.

The proof stays on the row

  • Official source

Each change links back to the state revenue agency, or the equivalent, behind that chart.

  • Effective date

The date is the one the state printed. A retrieval time is labeled Verified, and it is not the effective date.

  • What moved

Previous, current, and an upcoming rate when the state already printed a later effective date. A missing prior stays blank.

  • The report

The same rows on the page, in CSV, and in Excel, for the enrolled states on your watchlist.

All states

See the loaded rate charts. 48 jurisdictions (including DC and Puerto Rico) have a loaded rate chart. Open one below, or see the full catalog. The first jurisdictions stay readable. Further rates stay blurred until you unlock. Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon don't charge a general state or county sales tax, so there's no rate chart to track.

FAQ

Is there a free monitoring plan?

No. Monitoring is paid. You can open the sample Rate Change Report before you start. That sample is an excerpt from loaded official charts, not a personalized watchlist.

See sample report

What do I get?

Sales tax rate change monitoring for the enrolled states you watch. Each quarter you get a Rate Change Report: county or jurisdiction name and code, previous rate and current rate when the official chart has both, the change in percentage points when both are plain numbers, the change-effective date the state printed, an upcoming rate when the state printed a later effective date, the time the official file was verified, and the official source link, plus a saved PDF when the state posts one. Excel and CSV come with the report. The portal opens the same changes, and the rate table is there when you need the full chart. The Texas state Excel workbook download is available with the Texas chart for customers whose plan includes Texas. Texas charts and CSV downloads are available on the same plan.

See pricing

When does the next quarter’s chart open?

The full chart is the current quarter and earlier quarters. The next quarter’s full chart opens when that quarter starts. Pay quarterly and pay yearly continue into that quarter. They do not open it early. One quarter only does not. A rate the state already printed with a future effective date shows as an upcoming change on every paid plan. The upcoming change names the jurisdiction, the effective date, and the old and new rates. When the chart did not print the old rate, the row says Announced and that there is no prior rate on the official chart.

Which charts are available?

Data status lists the loaded rate chart for each state. We do not invent rates, and each chart shows when its official file was last verified. This is not a live or real-time feed.

Data status

How current is the information?

Change effective is the date the state made an in-force rate effective. It is shown when the official chart printed one, including when that day is also the day the file was retrieved. It stays blank when the chart did not print one. Change (pts) is the in-force previous-to-current move in percentage points, such as +1.0, when both rates are already in effect. It is not a percent of the old rate. When the state has printed a later rate, that row shows the upcoming rate once, the point change once, and when it takes effect. When the official chart did not print a prior rate, the row says there is no prior rate on the official chart. Verified is when that official file was retrieved, and it is not the effective date. Use the source link to confirm the chart before you rely on a rate. This is not a live or real-time feed.

Methodology

Is this a subscription?

Pay quarterly if you want a subscription. It starts only on the first day of a calendar quarter. Starter Focused is $119 per quarter, Professional Multi-State is $339 per quarter, and Business National is $539 per quarter. Each renews every three months on that day until you cancel. It does not start mid-quarter. Pay yearly is one charge for four quarters and does not renew. One quarter only does not renew.

See pricing

Do I pay again next quarter?

Pay quarterly renews every three months, on the first day of a calendar quarter, until you cancel. It can be started only on that day. Pay yearly is one charge for four quarters and does not renew. One quarter only covers the quarter that is already open and does not renew. Cancel a quarterly subscription before the next bill if you want it to stop.

See pricing

Can I get a refund?

One quarter only is non-refundable once access starts.

Pay yearly: you can cancel and ask for a refund any time. Email us at feedback@ussalestaxrates.com. We charge each quarter you have started at the current One quarter only price for your plan (Starter Focused $139, Professional Multi-State $399, Business National $629), and refund the rest of what you paid. If that leaves nothing, there is no refund. Access for that purchase ends when the refund is issued. For example, Starter Focused yearly costs $396. Cancel in quarter 1 and you get $257 back. Cancel in quarter 2 and you get $118 back. Cancel in quarter 3 or 4 and there is no refund.

Pay quarterly: cancel any time to stop the next charge. You keep access through the end of the quarter you paid for. Quarterly charges are non-refundable.

Duplicate purchases and billing errors are always refunded in full. Refunds go to the original payment method. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show it.

A full refund ends access for that purchase. So does a chargeback while it is open.

If we fail to deliver the quarterly report for states on your plan, contact us at feedback@ussalestaxrates.com for a refund or credit.

Can I buy a single quarter without renewing?

One quarter only is Starter Focused at $139, Professional Multi-State at $399, and Business National at $629. Each covers that quarter once. None of them starts a subscription.

See pricing

Are there seats?

No. Each plan is one workspace. Business National adds watchlists for entities or branches. That is organization, not extra seats.

See pricing

Can I buy a full year?

Yes. Pay yearly. Starter Focused is $99 per quarter, billed $396 once. Professional Multi-State is $279 per quarter, billed $1,116 once. Business National is $449 per quarter, billed $1,796 once. That charge covers the start quarter and the next three quarters as each quarter starts. It does not open those later full charts on the day you pay. It does not renew.

Which states are covered?

A plan covers the enrolled states that are live for that plan. Business National covers every enrolled state that is live at purchase. That is not a claim that all 50 states are included. Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon don't charge a general state or county sales tax, so there's no rate chart to track.

All states

Why wouldn’t I just use the state websites?

The official state source stays the authority. US Sales Tax Rates watches those publications and reports what changed, with the effective date, the source link, and the saved document, across the states on your watchlist.

All states

Is this a sales tax calculator?

US Sales Tax Rates monitors official Department of Revenue rate changes and delivers a Rate Change Report. It does not calculate tax on a cart, invoice, or transaction, and it is not a giant rate table.

See pricing

Do you track restaurant, meals, lodging, or other specialty taxes?

No. US Sales Tax Rates monitors the general sales and use chart the state publishes, or the general tax that agency names on that chart. Restaurant meals, lodging, resort, and other specialty taxes are not a product here and are not added as rate rows. A note that one of those taxes exists is a scope limit, not coverage.

Methodology

Do you file sales tax returns?

We do not file or remit sales tax. The product reports what the state published.

See pricing

Is this a replacement for a tax engine or filing service?

No. A tax engine calculates tax on a transaction and often files the return. US Sales Tax Rates replaces the quarterly hunt through Department of Revenue sites and the spreadsheet you rebuild from those files. It reports which general sales and use rates changed, with the official source.
