Changes
The jurisdictions that changed on this Mississippi chart are included with a plan.
The 7% figure on the Mississippi row is the general retail rate printed for the sale of tangible personal property under Retail Sales on the Sales Tax Rates page. The Intro to Sales and Use Taxes page prints the same regular retail rate. The Business Tax FAQ prints no county-level sales tax. Tupelo's additional levy is 0.25% and Jackson's additional levy is 1%. Each city total is the statewide rate plus that city's additional levy, and both parts are listed beside it. Jackson's levy is on certain retail sales. The FAQ points to Notice 72-14-2 for exclusions, and that notice is not parsed into rows. The Tourism and Economic Development Taxes page prints the city levy dates: Tupelo's levy is effective February 1, 1989 and is repealed only after a trustee certification, so it has no end date, and from May 1, 2026 it also applies to groceries taxed at the reduced rate. Jackson's levy is effective March 1, 2014 with a repeal date of July 1, 2035. Tourism and economic development taxes are not on this chart. The rates page does not print an effective date for the general retail rate. Monitoring and validation only.
Reduced rates printed on the Sales Tax Rates page are not the general retail rate. There is no county-level sales tax. Each city total is the statewide rate plus the additional levy that city charges inside its corporate limits. Tourism and economic development taxes are not general retail rates.
Reduced statutory rates on the Sales Tax Rates page are not listed.
Tourism and economic development taxes are not listed.
Jackson's additional levy applies to certain retail sales. Notice 72-14-2 lists exclusions and is not parsed into rows.

What the type letters mean
Labels are taken from the legend printed on this chart. A letter names a tax the chart says is part of the jurisdiction rate. It is not a separate percentage.
